The governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, appointed Lieutenant Colonel Sandra Luz Valdovinos Salmerón as attorney general.
Salgado presented the notification to the Guerrero Congress Monday night, after they rejected the first shortlist of candidates he presented, made up of former judge Anacleta López Vega, Ludwig Marcial Reynoso Núñez and José Luis Gallegos Peralta.
Valdovinos is lieutenant colonel of the Mexican Army. He has a bachelor’s degree in military justice and served as a representative of the legal advice of the General Directorate of Administration of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena). He is expected to protest around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

The past Guerrero attorney, Jorge Zuriel de los Santos Barrila, left his post on November 15, appealing to “personal reasons.”
Through his Facebook account, Santos Barrila clarified that his decision was “strictly personal and family (…) It has been the highest honor that I have been able to perform for my status as a legal professional, in these three and a half years that I served as attorney general, I have the satisfaction of having made my maximum effort to fulfill the citizenship of Guerrero ”, he added.
