Boric, president-elect of Chile, speaks with AMLO. The priority: Pacific Alliance

The statements of the President-elect of Chile are given after he declined the invitation of the current President Sebastián Piñera Echenique to accompany him to Colombia next January, where he will participate in summits of the Pacific Alliance and the Forum for the Progress of South America.

Tijuana, December 28 (Zeta) .- Gabriel Boric Font, President-elect of Chili, revealed, yesterday, Monday, December 27, that he spoke with his Mexican counterpart Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Regarding strengthening the Pacific Alliance, regional integration bloc made up of Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru, with the aim of strengthening commercial and economic relations.

“We are going to give priority to the Pacific Alliance in the future. I have already spoken with several of the presidents, particularly with [Andrés] Manuel López Obrador, from Mexico; with the president [Iván] Duke [Márquez], from Colombia, and we have also been in contact with the Foreign Ministry of Peru ”, said Boric Font in an interview with local media.

The statements of the President-elect of Chile are given after he declined the invitation of the current President Sebastián Piñera Echenique to accompany him to Colombia next January, to participate in summits of the Pacific Alliance and the Forum for the Progress of South America (PROSUR) , also made up of Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay and Peru.

“Regarding PROSUR, it seems to us that this is President Piñera’s own agenda, which is in his legitimate right. In due course, when it is our turn to assume, we will develop our regional agenda based on the tremendous challenges we have at the regional and global level: fighting the pandemic, the climate crisis, the migratory crisis and, by the way, collaboration both economic as the strengthening of democracy, “he added.

Boric Font added that he told Piñera Echenique that he hoped that his decision not to attend the summits “is not understood in any case as a slight from the State” and that his priorities are in the formation of his Cabinet of 24 ministers for his Government, that will begin on March 11, 2022, when at 36 years of age he will become the youngest President in the history of Chile.

On December 20, Andrés Manuel López Obrador celebrated the triumph of the left-wing candidate Gabriel Boric Font – a 35-year-old lawyer, deputy and former student leader – who a day earlier won the Chilean Presidential elections, defeating the far-right José Antonio Kast Rist.

“First, express our joy, it is undeniable, for the triumph of Gabriel Boric in Chile, I already congratulated him in the morning. There is a time difference, now in Chile it is 10:20 in the morning. It is a triumph of democracy in Chile, Latin America and the Caribbean, in the world ”, said the Mexican president.

“I congratulate the people of Chile, I embrace the brother people of Chile, they have set an example for Latin America and for the world,” concluded the head of the Mexican Federal Executive Power, during his morning press conference.

Boric Font triumphed with 55.8 percent of the preferences over his adversary Kast Rist, who obtained 44.1 percent of the vote and acknowledged his defeat. For his part, current president Piñera Echenique also congratulated the winning candidate and invited him to an informational meeting on December 20.
